Ash Wednesday Services
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of a spiritual journey that will span forty days, from Ash Wednesday until the dawn of Easter. Throughout this forty-day journey, we are reminded of God’s love for us.
We offer two worship experiences on Ash Wednesday this year (March 6, 2019): a brief devotional service at 12:00 p.m. and a more traditional service at 7:00 p.m. The evening service follows a Spaghetti Dinner, which begins at 6:00 p.m.
During the service, participants have the opportunity to receive ashes in the shape of a cross on their foreheads or on the backs of their hands. The ashes are the remains of the palm fronds we waved during last year’s Palm Sunday worship service, and they symbolize our humility before God and our sincere desire to follow Christ more fully. If you would prefer not to receive ashes, you may choose to remain seated or to receive a blessing instead.
